An initiative of the Massachusetts Intitute of Technology (MIT), ISN is an interdepartmental research center founded in 2002 by a $50 million, five-year contract with the U.S. Army Research Office. Now in its second five-year contract, the mission of the ISN is straightforward: develop and exploit nanotechnology to dramatically improve the survivability of Soldiers.

An initiative from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) focusing on the employment challenges of returning service members living with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and/or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR)

Defense Centers of Excellence (DCoE)
The Defense Centers of Excellence (DCoE) for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury: DCoE assesses, validates, oversees and facilitates prevention, resilience, identification, treatment, outreach, rehabilitation, and reintegration programs for psychological health (PH) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) to ensure the Department of Defense meets the needs of the nation's military communities, warriors and families. DCoE brings together six component centers:
- Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC)
The mission of the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) is to serve active duty military, their beneficiaries and veterans with traumatic brain injury (TBI) through state-of-the-art medical care, innovative clinical research initiatives and educational programs.
- Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP)
Its mission is to train military and civilian psychologists and other mental health professionals to provide high quality deployment-related behavioral health services to military personnel and their families.
- Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress (CSTS)
CSTS works to provide knowledge, leadership and applications for preparing for, responding to and recovering from the consequences of disaster and trauma. The Center advances knowledge, healthcare and preparedness through education, research, consultation and training.
- Deployment Health Clinical Center (DHCC)
DHCC launched its web site in 2001 to assist busy clinicians in the delivery of post-deployment healthcare. It represents a comprehensive source of deployment-related health information for both healthcare providers and service members, veterans, and family members. In addition, it is the primary source of communication and support for the implementation of the DoD/VA Post-Deployment Health Clinical Practice Guideline (PDH-CPG).
- National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE)
NICoE will be an advanced facility dedicated to research, diagnosis and treatment of military personnel and veterans who have sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or who are experiencing psychological health issues. The 72,000 square foot, two-story facility will be located on the Navy campus at Bethesda, Maryland, adjacent to the new Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, with close access to the Uniformed Services University, the National Institutes of Health, and the Veterans Health Administration.
- National Center for Telehealth and Technology (T2)
T2 researches, develops, evaluates, and deploys new and existing technologies for Psychological Health (PH) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) across the Department of Defense (DoD). The T2 Center meets this mission by serving as the principal DoD coordinator in such areas as innovative technology applications, suicide surveillance and prevention, online behavioral health tools, and telepsychological health.

Provides medical knowledge and materiel lifecycle management to protect, treat and optimize Warfighter health and performance across the full spectrum of operations.
US Department of Defense (DoD) Military Health System
America’s Military Health System (MHS) is a unique partnership of medical educators, medical researchers, and healthcare providers and their support personnel worldwide. This DoD enterprise consists of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs; the medical departments of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Joint Chiefs of Staff; the Combatant Command surgeons; and TRICARE providers (including private sector healthcare providers, hospitals and pharmacies).
US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration
Its mission is "to serve the needs of America's veterans by providing primary care, specialized care, and related medical and social support services."
- Polytrauma care is for veterans and returning service members with injuries to more than one physical region or organ system, one of which may be life threatening, and which results in physical, cognitive, psychological, or psychosocial impairments and functional disability.

Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA)
Founded in 1980, the mission of the BIAA is "Creating a better future through brain injury prevention, research, education and advocacy." Includes extensive resources and links to related websites.
BrainLine.org
BrainLine.org is a new national multimedia project offering information and resources about preventing, treating, and living with TBI. BrainLine.org is a service of WETA, the public TV and radio station in Washington, DC and is funded by the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center through a contract with the Henry M. Jackson Foundation.
Henry M. Jackson Foundation
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit organization established in 1983 and authorized by Congress to support medical research and education at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and throughout the broader military medical community.
